Caring for Leather Goods
It is highly recommended that you follow the care instructions enclosed with your Tunu Pookrum creation. Keeping the bag filled with original packing materials helps the bag keep its shape when not in use. Also, keeping the bag in the box and/or dust bag will protect it from dust and light; preserving the condition of the bag. Avoid exposing the creations to direct light/sunlight for extended periods of time as this may cause fading. Store the creations in a cool, dry place. Moisture may cause the leather to rot or mold. It is best to keep the creations on a flat surface. Do not store creations by hanging them by the straps or handles. This may cause the bag to misshapen and will put stress on the skin, stitching and some hardware. For creations that require waterproofing, we suggest using the waterproofing products (see below) or have it serviced by your leather care specialist.
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your garments. A leather specialist should know how to properly treat the garment so that they are properly cleaned and preserved. Store the garments in a cool, dry place when not wearing and keep them covered, preferably in a garment bag. Garments that have hair should be kept covered with a low to no friction covering to avoid the hairs being rubbed out. Use hangers that are sturdy and thick to support the weight of the garment and that will assist in keeping the garment’s shape. Avoid folding the garments for extended periods of time as the skins will crease and the creases can be very difficult to remove. Avoid getting the garments wet with water or other liquids.
It is highly recommended that your mixed media clothing be dry cleaned or cared for by a leather specialist. Avoid getting the leather accents wet with water as it can alter the look and feel of the leather. Also, other liquids may stain the leathers. Between full cleanings, spot cleaning the cloth portion of the garment is an option. The garments are dryer safe at low temperatures, but again, dry cleaning is the best option. Use hangers that are sturdy and thick to support the weight of the garment and that will assist in keeping the shape of the garment. Cloth garments may, also, be folded and kept on shelves or in drawers. Do not fold along the leather elements as this will cause creasing in the skins. When not being worn, garments with animal hair pieces should be covered with a low to no friction covering to avoid the hairs being rubbed off.
For spot cleaning on mixed media garments, The Laundress cleaning solution is highly recommended. The Laundress cleans, virtually, any stain from garments without leaving behind discoloration or rings. For cleaning leather goods, Collonil Carbon leather cleaner is suggested, or take them to your leather specialist. For waterproofing bags, we suggest the Colloni waterproofing products.
The leathers are acquired from domestic leather suppliers who acquire leathers and other animal products from global sources.
Game and wildlife commissions which regulate the hunting of animals use these tags to indicate that the animal was legally hunted and that it is authentic.
